Midweek Interview with Joanne Tralaggan, Accreditation Marketing & Communications Manager at AFTA

The challenge for the industry is… how do brands make themselves relevant in a dynamic information cluttered marketplace where consumers are increasingly more savvy & demanding?

The things I like about my job are… the people, the challenges and the opportunity these challenges present to be creative. I like that I can employ skills that I have learnt throughout my career but that there are still endless opportunities to build on my expertise. I love that at AFTA that I can learn from my managers and grow both professionally and personally.

And the frustrations… I don’t get frustrated. As I see it, “success is not built on success. It’s built on failure. It’s built on frustration. Sometimes it’s built on catastrophe” (Sumner Redstone). I look to the positive and always enjoy the journey!

If I didn’t work in travel I would be a… pro cyclist.

My proudest moment was… last weekend where I completed my first professional cycling race as part of the Target Trek Team at the Australian National Road Series in Canberra.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was… Lips are sealed. You won’t get that from me too easily!

I try to relax by… exercising.

The last time I feared for my life… was when I choked on a roquette leaf.

If I can, I always try to avoid… heights.

I really wish I had… learnt ballet when I was growing up.

The best advice I’ve ever received was…The key to personal growth is becoming more comfortable with change and less comfortable with staying the same.

I don’t understand why… more people don’t like anchovies.

My greatest weakness is… ice cream (could happily polish of a 2 litre tub…yum).

And my greatest strength… is my inner tenacity, dedication and passion.

If I was prime minister I would… nope, I can’t imagine myself in politics.

If I won $1 million on the lottery I would… invest it.

If I could be someone else for one day I would be… Willy Wonka (only if it comes with his Chocolate Factory!).

I’ve always wanted to travel to… the Arctic Circle.

My favourite holiday was… to South Africa with my Dad.
