Airport glows on royal baby watch
By admin

Christchurch Airport will be aglow with excitement as it awaits word of the royal baby's imminent birth as it illuminates its terminal with alternate pink and blue lighting every night.

Prince William and Princess Kate are expected to announce the birth of their first child any day now.

One the announcement is made and the baby revealed as a future king or queen of Great Britain, it will display either pink or blue lighting as appropriate for one week to celebrate the new arrival.

The control tower will also join the bright build-up, lighting up in honour of the occasion.

"At the moment, millions of people all over the world are waiting to see whether the royal baby is a prince or princess, so we were very happy to work with Monarchy New Zealand to be lit up when the future king or queen is born," chief executive Jim Boult said.

He revealed the airport's ability to change colour has long proved popular with tourists passing through the terminal.

"On most nights the lighting rotates through the colours of the rainbow and we often see visitors waiting  to take a photo of the terminal in their favourite colour," he added.
