Australia’s hotels and their employees were celebrated this week at Tourism Accommodation Australia 2013 National Awards for Excellence, held in Canberra for the first time.

More than 450 hotel industry leaders, hoteliers, special guests, diplomats and parliamentarians gathered for the event at Hotel Realm with the award for Overall Hotel of the Year going to the Park Hyatt Sydney. Hotel Realm took the gong for Best Meetings and Events Venue while Parmelia Hilton Perth trumped the category for Outstanding Achievement in Training.

Meanwhile, Timothy Hunt of Park Hyatt Sydney nabbed the award for 2014 Hotel Industry Rising Star.

TAA chaiman Tony South underlined the importance of the awards in recognising the industry’s achievements.

“The 162 national finalists were winners of their respective AHA State and Territory awards level.  Winning a national AHA award is an outstanding achievement – and a tribute to the hard work and dedication of these hotels,” he said.
