Watch: Moment passenger opens emergency door mid-air onboard Asiana Airlines
Edited by Travel Weekly

One man has been arrested following a mind blowing decision to open an emergency door mid flight on board an Asiana Airlines flight.

Nearly 200 passengers were on board the A321-200 which was approaching Daegu International Airport, about 240km south east of Seoul when the incident occurred.

Several passengers were hospitalised once the plane landed, however there were no serious injuries or damage reported.

Footage taken from onboard the plane shows one emergency door wide open with antimacassars (hair ‘protector’ on head rests) flapping in the wind.

A 30 year old man was subsequently arrested and faces up to ten years in jail for breaking aviation laws if found guilty.

Asiana Airlines told AFP news agency that emergency exit seats (31A and 26A) onboard its 14 A321-200 jets would no longer be for sale, “As a safety precaution, this measure will apply even if the flights are full,” a spokesperson said.

It is not yet clear how the man was able to open the emergency door mid flight.
