All Nippon Airlines cancels tickets purchased during currency blunder

It’s the news we were expecting, but not the news excited travellers would have been hoping for, All Nippon Airlines has announced they will not honour tickets purchased on its Vietnam website during a currency blunder.

Many jumped on the bargain flights, some scoring first class trips valued at over $16,000 for as low as $890.

A statement from the Japanese airline on Tuesday read, “For the flights which were erroneously processed, ANA will cancel and fully refund all itineraries. ANA will notify each customer affected by the error. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience, and appreciate your cooperation in communicating with us.”

The flights were at such a low rate due to a currency conversion error that ANA say was a result of a technical issue in a quoting system provided by Amadeus IT Group SA.

ANA said the currency conversion error was related to a technical issue in a fare-quote system provided by Amadeus IT Group SA.

An Amadeus spokesperson said the situation, “temporarily led, in some instances, to incorrect pricing being displayed for specific cabin classes for ANA.”
