Vietjet celebrates launch in Australia with arrival of inaugural flight to Sydney

Vietjet today welcomed nearly 400 passengers at Sydney International Airport who arrived on its inaugural flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Sydney.

This marks the beginning of six weekly return flights to Vietnam departing from Sydney and Melbourne, with Brisbane flights to commence from June.

The arrival of Vietjet in Australia will create an estimated 1,500 local jobs, with the airline investing more than $100 million into the Australian economy over the next three years. In its first year of operation, the airline will offer over 400,000 seats and 15,000 tonnes of freight capacity between Ho Chi Minh City and Australia, providing a significant boost to bilateral trade.

VietJet touches down in Sydney

To mark the important milestone, Vietjet’s Vice President, Do Xuan Quang, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Nguyen Tat Thanh and Sydney Airport Chief Executive Officer Geoff Culbert welcomed passengers arriving in Sydney.

Vietjet Vice President, Nguyen Thanh Son said:

“Australia plays an important role in our business strategy. The first two routes connecting Melbourne and Sydney, respectively, with Ho Chi Minh City demonstrates Vietjet’s strong commitment to provide a new choice for Australians to explore Vietnam and other Asian destinations through our diverse classes of SkyBoss Business, Skyboss, Deluxe and Eco. Our flights will make a significant contribution to the economic and tourism growth of Vietnam, Australia and New South Wales in the coming years.”

Sydney Airport Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Culbert said:

“We’re thrilled to welcome Vietjet to Sydney Airport, as the airline will be providing a great low-cost option to this sought-after destination. Vietjet’s extensive domestic network will also deliver greater choice for passengers wanting to explore other cities across Vietnam.

As Australia marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Vietnam, it’s fitting that our 50th airline is a Vietnamese carrier.”

To celebrate its launch, Vietjet is offering a fare discount of 50 per cent for its SkyBoss and SkyBoss Business until 5 May 2023.

Travel dates for this offer start from now until December 12, 2023. To be eligible, passengers can use codes AUS50SBB (SkyBoss Business) and AUS50SB (SkyBoss) when purchasing tickets at www.vietjetair.com or the airline’s mobile app.

This runs in conjunction with Vietjet’s ongoing promotional offer every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with low fares starting from $200 (**).

Operating on A330s with three return flights per week, Vietjet’s flights from Sydney to Ho Chi Minh City will take place every Monday, Thursday and Saturday, departing at 10:15am and landing at 4:30 pm (local time). Return flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Sydney will depart every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, taking off at 7:30 pm and landing in Sydney at 7:20am.

Vietjet’s flights from Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh City commenced on 9 April, and will take place every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, departing at 12:30am and landing at 6:30am (local time). Return flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Melbourne will depart every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, taking off at 10:55am and landing in Melbourne at 10:35pm.
