Sea Life Sydney reopens cageless shark diving experience

In a sign that the Australian tourism industry is in full swing, Sea Life Sydney has re-introduced its cageless shark diving experience after a two-and-a-half-year hiatus.

Shark Dive Xtreme allows brave tourists to get in the water alongside sharks, rays and fish.

The two-hour adventure features a safety briefing and introduction to scuba diving. Once complete, divers are able to enter the tank alongside a range of sealife.

“Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or a local marine life enthusiast, keen to come face-to-fin with, and learn more about these beautiful, endangered creatures, the return of Shark Dive Xtreme is something to be excited for and will educate you on Sea Life Sydney Aquarium’s conservation efforts,” said Caleb Mantle, Shark Dive Xtreme diver team at Sea Life Sydney Aquarium.

“We’re inviting guests to meet with our Grey Nurse Sharks, including Murdock, Mary-Lou and Striker.

“The species have been called ‘man eaters’ but they’re not harmful to humans, we refer to them as the puppy dogs of the shark world. They are very intelligent, and each has their own personality. Mary-Lou is the classic shark who likes to swim high up, with her fin out of the water, and is always first to a feed.”‘

The 2.5-hour experience starts at $329 per person and includes attraction entry, full diver training, 30 min oceanarium dive and all equipment. Participants don’t need to have diving experience.
