New Canada flight connection invites tropical stopover

Australians now have more connections to the popular long-haul destination of Canada, with the launch of Fiji Airways’ twice-weekly commercial flights direct from Fiji to Vancouver.

The inaugural flight was bid farewell from the Nadi International Airport on Friday 25 November, marking the commencement of Fiji Airways’ newest direct international service. The service touched down in Vancouver after 1pm local time on 25th November (after 8am 26th November AEDT).

From now, Fiji Airways will fly direct to and from Vancouver every Monday and Friday. To connect to Fiji from Australia, Fiji Airways currently operates twice daily flights from Sydney, and daily flights from Melbourne and Brisbane to Nadi, Fiji. The national carrier also operates twice-weekly flights from Adelaide to Nadi.

Fiji Airways managing director and chief executive officer Andre Viljoen is encouraging Australians to take advantage of the new twice-weekly flights to Canada to tag on a break in Fiji before flying onto their destination.

“Our five star airline, and multi-award winning onboard experience, including meals, amenities and staff service offers the best value for money,” Viljoen said.

“With the holiday season fast approaching, the timing of our newest route could not be better.

“We can now connect Aussies to Canada for the holiday season, and invite them to warm up in tropical Fiji with a convenient stopover holiday before returning to Australia well rested and relaxed.

“In the lead up to the launch of the flights, more and more Australians have been showing an interest in the new service, indicating that there is demand which Fiji Airways can tap into.

“As we continue to expand our network and launch new routes, we are creating more and more pathways for Australians to access popular travel destinations, cementing Fiji as a convenient connection or stopover destination to further afield.”

The new service with Fiji Airway’s widebody Airbus fleet also provides more capacity for cargo, enabling an increase in trade between Fiji and Canada, as well as other Pacific Island nations.

Goods that used to take up to a week to reach Canada, or Fiji from Canada, can now be transported overnight, opening up new possibilities for agricultural and goods exports.
