AFTA reveals major change to ATAS as charter review wraps up

AFTA has announced a major change to ATAS, renaming the scheme… ATAS.

The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) revealed yesterday it plans to drop the reference to AFTA in the name to reflect the evolution of the AFTA Travel Accreditation Scheme (ATAS).

The acronym will now stand for the Australian Travel Accreditation Scheme.

“While many agents, branded and independent, are members – so too are many tour operators, wholesalers and cruise lines,” Dean Long, CEO of AFTA said.

“I know from the ongoing discussions we’ve had across the industry since I started as AFTA CEO, including through the current formal review process, that ATAS’ importance in supporting consumer confidence in the travel distribution sector is widely held.

“Membership of ATAS gives certainty that businesses meet a range of key criteria, with the support of a comprehensive management scheme providing a mechanism to resolve issues that cannot be sorted on a business-to-consumer basis.”

The peak body’s accreditation scheme is currently undergoing an independent review, which Long said will be released shortly.

“We will discuss this further in tomorrow’s member webinar,” Long continued, “If you haven’t already signed up you can register here.”
