Midweek Catch-up with TRAVLR’s Roann Roberts

We love an alliterative name, all the best superheroes and villains have them. We’re not sure where TRAVLR’s head of global travel product sits on that spectrum, though.

What’s your main goal for this year?

To play a part in the industry’s recovery and help to guide the future path of travel.

What’s your favourite thing about working in the travel industry?

The people, the passion and the opportunity to share our inspiring travel stories.

How do you like to spend your free time?

Exploring new places and restaurants. I love the great outdoors and going on bushwalks.

Have you managed to do any travelling since restrictions began to ease (domestic or international?)

I’ve done trips on home soil to Queenstown, Wanaka, Martinborough; enjoying amazing food/wine/cycle trails and breathtaking scenery. How lucky are Kiwis to have this on our doorstep!

What’s your favourite travel company besides the one you work for?

Intrepid Group and its purpose to benefit travellers and the places and people they visit.

The team’s journey, people and values makes them shine as a force for good in our world.

If you could invite three famous guests to a dinner party, who would you choose?

Anthony Bourdain, Louis Theroux, Jack Whitehall.

What’s something positive you’ve witnessed or experienced since the global pandemic hit?

The industry pulling together to support one another and a real feeling of “we are all in this together.”

What’s your advice for others in the travel industry on coping with the global pandemic?

Take it one day at a time, reach out to others for support and constantly remind yourself of why we are all so passionate about an industry that gives us so much back.

What book and/or TV show can you not get enough of lately?

Yellowstone.

Do you have any travel goals for 2022?

I have so many travel goals! First, up will be Fiji for a dose of Bula happiness – sipping on a well-earnt cocktail and sailing the Yasawa Islands.
