Malaysia Airlines is selling off its jumbo jets via LinkedIn

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - September 12, 2016: Malaysia Airlines Airbus 380 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Ever wondered where you can buy a jumbo jet?

Well, now you can pick one up on LinkedIn for a cool $400 million.

Malaysia Aviation Group, Malaysia Airlines’ parent company, is flogging its stash of six Airbus A380-800 planes or their components via the career-centred social networking site.

The airline posted to its LinkedIn page advertising an open tender for the aircraft in July, inviting potential buyers to get in touch via email.

“OPEN TENDER NOTICE: MAB Pesawat Sdn Bhd (MABP) is conducting an open tender for the sale of six (6) AIRBUS 380-800 aircraft and/or its components,” the airline said in the post.

“Please send your interest of participation by 12pm (Malaysia Time, GMT +8) on Thursday, 12 August 2021.”

Which, happens to be tomorrow, so all aspiring jumbo jet owners had better get in quick.

Malaysia Airlines began a  3.6 billion ringgit ($1.2 million) restructure in February to help take the sting off its 15 billion ringgit (about $5 billion) debt, according to Reuters.

In February 2019, Airbus announced it would cease deliveries of the A380 superjumbo jet in 2021, marking the end of the giant of the skies.

Airbus’ announcement came not long after Qantas cancelled an order for eight A380s and Emirates, the model’s largest customer, signalled it may switch to a smaller A350 model.
