Tripadvisor names the hottest domestic travel destinations for spring

Tripadvisor has released its Seasonal Travel Index for spring, revealing a small recovery for domestic tourism, with two-thirds of its users planning a getaway at this time of year.

The index shows where Aussies are travelling to over the next few months, with Broome coming out on top as the most popular destination.

Hamilton Island and Byron Bay are also due to see a significant year-over-year increase in travellers.

The data showed that Aussies are most keen on beach destinations or trips where they can explore the outdoors with the purpose of relaxing and enjoying nature while escaping their daily routines.

Short, last-minute trips are also in vogue for Spring, with 55 per cent of travellers booking two-five nights and 36 per cent booking one night stays close to the time of travel, often less than a week in advance.

Understandably, travellers have also become more budget-conscious as domestic travellers search for less expensive hotel stays than last year.

While more travellers are viewing luxurious resorts and all-inclusive properties, campgrounds and farmhouses are recovering the fastest year on year since last week.

The data also revealed the top destinations for the Asia-Pacific region based on year-over-year recovery:
