Cathay Pacific joins ‘Rainbow Trail’ in show of hope and solidarity

Fridays are always better with a bit of colour, and brighter with a bit of hope. Case in point, Cathay Pacific has brought the beautiful ‘Rainbow Trail’ trend to one of its runways.

As a sign of hope and solidarity during lockdowns around the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a chalk rainbow was drawn on the tarmac at Sydney International Airport next to a Cathay Pacific A350-900 aircraft, before it departed Sydney with a wave from its captain.

It comes as part of a new trend taking the world by storm, which is widely considered to have been brought to popularity by Crystal Stanley, of Ipswich in the United Kingdom.

On her ‘Rainbow Trail’ Facebook page, which Stanley told BBC News was set up after seeing “something similar” in Italy, she invites people to create rainbow pictures during lockdown and stick them in their windows for children to find.

More than 200,000 people from around the world have since joined the page. And now, Cathay Pacific has brought the trend to what would usually be the country’s busiest airport, while bringing a smile to the faces of airport staff.
