As a well-travelled industry, it has more than likely crossed a lot of our minds how we would react during a mid-air emergency.

One group of passengers was put to the test last week when they were informed their flight would be forced to make an emergency landing just half an hour after take-off after the plane reportedly began to experience engine failure.

Footage from onboard the flight shows people holding hands and praying while a man in the row behind them takes a generous swig from a bottle of whisky before passing it onto another passenger.

Passengers throughout the plane can be heard joining the prayer which is ended with a round of applause as the plane rocks during the turbulence.

The Swift Air flight, which was flying from Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to Miami, Florida, was able to safely turn back to its starting point, according to Flyertalk.

The video was met with a mixed bag of commenters, ranging from the hilarious to fake news accusations.

“I will not die sober!” one Youtube user wrote.

“Very brave and noble group of people; I respect their faith and serenity and courage at a time like that,” another commented.

“Fake news,” said another.

The airline was operating the Dominican Republic to Miami leg of a flight originating in Venezuela operated by LASER Airlines, which has been banned from flying to the US since May 15 due to “conditions in Venezuela [that] threaten the safety and security of passengers, aircraft, and crew traveling to or from that country” according to the US Department of Homeland Security.
