6 intimate Hawaiian experiences for couples
Just over half of Australia’s annual visitors to the Hawaiian Islands travel as a duo. From couple holidays, honeymoons, weddings, anniversaries and vow renewals, the Hawaiian Islands help pairs create romance-filled memories.
Here are six Hawaii experiences that provide the perfect setting for an intimate affair for couples:
Catamaran sunset sail off Waikiki Beach, Oahu
Several catamarans set sail directly off the sands of Oahu’s Waikiki Beach just before dusk, whisking passengers away to view a spectacular sunset out at sea. This is one of the most romantic ways to experience Oahu.
Passengers can cuddle up onboard with that someone special while enjoying a mai tai (or few) and taking couple selfies with Diamond Head crater in the background. A catamaran sunset sail can be booked with Sail Holokai, Maitai Catamaran or Kepoikai II Catamaran.
Road to Hana driving adventure, Maui
Maui’s Road to Hana is a scenic highway famous for its stunning twists and turns. It’s one of Hawaii’s best road trip experiences for two, made extra-dreamy by driving a convertible.
Couples can spend quality time together meandering the 620 curves and 59 bridges, stopping at leisure to explore the rainforest and swim in waterfalls.
Local treats can be enjoyed en route, such as Aunty Sandy’s banana bread and Coconut Glen’s vegan ice cream.
Once in Hana, visitors can check out the quaint town before settling in at a local bed and breakfast for the night (or if pressed for time, turnaround for the return leg).
Helicopter tour over Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Island of Hawaii
The Island of Hawaii is home to Hawaii’s only active volcanoes, making Hawaii Volcanoes National Park one of the biggest attractions in the state.
Filled with craters, steam vents and underground lava tubes, this natural wonder is continuously changing shape (updates at nps.gov/havo) and the top way to see it all is from the air.
Couples can hold tight to each other during a doors-off heli-tour with Paradise Helicopters, or keep the doors on with aerial adventure via Blue Hawaiian or Safari Helicopters.
Peaceful river kayaking excursion, Kauai
Kauai is a beautiful blend of white-sand beaches, lush rainforests, tall sea cliffs and rocky canyons, and has served as the backdrop to over 60 TV shows and movies.
Kauai is the only Hawaiian island with navigable rivers, making kayaking one of the islands must-do activities.
Couples can take a river kayaking excursion to remote areas along the Wailua River (Kauai’s largest navigable river) or Huleia River guided by Outfitters Kauai. These two-person kayak adventures immerse paddlers in Kauai’s countryside, setting the scene for a relaxing day-date.
Sunrise Hike to Puu Pehe, Lanai
Puu Pehe is an ocean rock formation near Hulopoe Bay on Lanai’s south shore. It’s one of the island’s most recognisable landmarks and worth taking a closer look.
Visitors to the area can take a short 15-minute hike from the Four Seasons Lanai along the coastline to the top of the hill to come face-to-face with this striking sea stack.
It’s a lovely rock to gaze upon, especially at sunrise next to that someone special. Visitors can embrace the serenity of daybreak watching the light dance upon Puu Pehe, with waves gently crashing in the background.
Partake in a Lomilomi Massage, Molokai
The Hawaiian Island of Molokai has a significant native Hawaiian population and retains a traditional way of life – an ideal destination for rest and relaxation.
One of the greatest ways to unwind on this island is via lomilomi massage, a special form of Native Hawaiian massage that involves rhythmic motion and healing properties.
This unique massage technique, along with various other wellness experiences, are available at Molokai Lomi Therapeutic Massage and Healing Center.
