Qantas CEO offers tips to new airline in heart-warming gesture

Airlines are generally against sharing advice to one another, but Qantas’ chief executive has made an exception for a new aviation player.

Ten-year-old Alex Jacquot recently penned a letter to Alan Joyce requesting a few tips on starting his new airline, “Oceania Express”.

The boy also asked Joyce for some advice on sleep for passengers, as he was thinking of introducing long-haul Sydney/Melbourne to London flights with an A350 jet, just like Qantas.

And if Jacquot hadn’t already proved how serious he was on starting an airline, he also noted that he had already hired a chief financial officer, a head of IT, a head of maintenance, a head of on-board services, and a head of legal, “as well as my friend Wolf” as vice-CEO.

The response from Qantas’ boss was all class, with Joyce providing the advice that Jacquot sought, as well as inviting the boy to meet with him to “compare notes on what it’s like to run an airline” and offering a tour of Qantas’ operations centre.

    1. Impressive. I see the making of an entrepreneur right here and right now with young Alex… …and it’s heartwarming to see the youth engaging with our business leaders for answers – a natural cause of business and, as it should be. None of the unprofessional, hidden political agendas we’ve all come to expect from young people of late. It would be great in this case if the leadership team at QANTAS can continue the momentum as I see it as a catalyst for a start of better things to come. Well done Mr Joyce for engaging with Mr Jacquot at the highest of levels – from CEO to CEO. This is what we need more of. Excellent.
