Tourist or terrorist: The one travel mistake you DO NOT want to make

A Scottish tourist was forced to cancel plans to travel to New York after ticking the wrong box while applying for entry to the US.

And it was a box you DEFINITELY want to avoid ticking. The one marked “are you involved in terrorist activities or genocide?”

28-year-old Mandie Stevenson only realised she made the mistake when her application was rejected two days later, according to the Sun.

Stevenson had to postpone her trip and head to the US embassy in London to convince officials she’s not an actual terrorist. Nor is she planning on committing genocide.

To be fair though, we’re not sure even terrorists themselves would tick that particular box. Seems like a bit of a give away tbh.

She managed to get her new visa approved literally the day before she was due to fly out, and had to pay $1,437 to rebook everything.

“I think when I’ve scrolled through the web page it has clicked yes by mistake — and on that question which is the worst of all,” Stevenson said.

“It’s been so stressful. I can laugh about it now but it’s a lesson to take more care.”

Stevenson had planned the trip after being diagnosed with breast cancer at 26 and will finally be able to take off next month after US authorities determined she mad an honest error.

“It’s cost me an extra £800. Because of my illness I need special travel insurance so I couldn’t claim on that either,” she said.

“But I’ve managed to change everything, extend the tickets and reschedule our meals out.

“The annoying thing is we changed all our plans and re-booked for October because the Embassy assured me it wouldn’t be processed in time.

“Then my passport arrived with the visa last Friday — the day before we were meant to go.”
