David Gonski to take a seat at Sydney Airport board

David Gonski AC will be joining the board of Sydney Airport as a non-executive director for late September 2018.

Gonski is Chairman of the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ), Chancellor of the University of New South Wales, President of the Art Gallery of NSW Trust, a member of the ASIC External Advisory Panel and the board of the Lowy Institute for International Policy.

He was also famously commissioned by the Rudd government to be chairman of a committee designed to make recommendations for public school funding, resulting in the Gonski report.

In 2017 he chaired an independent panel, Review to Achieve Educational Excellence in Australian Schools, to present a second Gonski Report to the Turnbull government in March this year.

“David brings with him decades of experience working successfully in business and with all levels of Australian government,” Sydney Airport Chairman Trevor Gerber said.

“We expect he will make a valuable contribution to our board and senior leadership team.”

“I am pleased to be joining the board of Sydney Airport and am looking forward to working with my fellow directors and with the CEO Geoff Culbert and his team to support Sydney Airport’s future success,” Gonski added.

“Sydney Airport is Australia’s gateway, connecting Sydney and NSW regionally, nationally and internationally. Ensuring its continued growth and productivity will deliver significant economic activity and ensure long-term job creation in the tourism and business sectors.”

Gonski was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2007 and received the Centenary Medal in 2003.
