Discovery Parks fundraising competition makes Variety kids a winner
Campers have rallied in holiday parks all around Australia doing what they do best – having fun — to raise money for Variety to enable kids who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs to engage with their world. Variety, the national children’s charity, is where families find help for specialist care and equipment, among other things, when they can’t access government funding.
National holiday park network, Discovery Parks, has raised $110,429 for Variety, the Children’s Charity in the 2018 Financial Year with a range of in-park and Adelaide office activities, including dress-ups, competitions, raffles, sausage sizzles, pizza nights, fairs, morning teas and movie nights. Discovery Parks CEO Grant Wilckens said the friendly competition between parks to raise the most money reflected the strong ties they had to their local communities. Many parks invite their local communities to be part of fundraising activities and funds raised are distributed to Variety for use in their local region.
Six-year-old Henry lives with bilateral cerebral palsy in country SA. While he finds movement difficult, it’s difficult for his family to access regular therapy for him. With help from Discovery Parks, Variety funded a hydrotherapy pool to help develop Henry’s gross motor skills.
