Midweek Interview with San Diego Tourism Authority’s Phil Hannes

Midweek Interview with San Diego Tourism Authority’s Phil Hannes

This week, we chewed the ear off Phil Hannes from San Diego Tourism Authority. His hearing isn’t great now.

The challenge for the industry is…

We are being taken over by younger folks, smarter and newer technology that by the time I get it, there is a newer process.  Got to learn and keep up!

The things I like about my job…

The people I work with in the industry day in and day out, they are the best!

And the frustrations are…

Not enough time to fully do what I want to do.

If I didn’t work in travel I would be…

A performing magician.

Favourite airline?

United Airlines…always seems to come through.

My proudest moment was…

My wedding day and hearing my wife say I do!

The naughtiest thing I ever did was…

Too many to mention.

I try to relax by…

Spending time with my grandkids and showing them magic tricks.

The last time I feared for my life was…

On a flight from Brazil to Argentina during a horrible storm.

If I can, I always try to avoid…

Nasty people and seafood.

I really wish I had…

More vacations to travel for leisure.

The best advice I’ve ever received was…

From my wife, my mother, my dad, my friends, my kids…”stop it!”

I don’t understand why people…

Don’t know how to drive properly, anywhere!  It’s frustrating!!

My greatest weakness is…

Easily entertained, doesnt take much to entertain me.

And my greatest strength is…

I am a great friend and always positive, find the best in the worst!

If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would…

Buy my Corvette and put some money in a fund for my grandkids’ education.

If I was prime minister I would…

Make it the law that all citizens must travel the world several times in their lifetime!

If I could be someone else for one day I would be a…

Pet dog, specially mine.

I’ve always wanted to travel to…

The northern country in the US by car or motorhome, and spend time just driving.

My favourite holiday was…

My family cruise to the caribbean, my family cruise to Alaska, my family cruise to Hawaii….get the picture??
