Carnival offers free trip for teen’s Snapchat handle

Carnival Cruise has been setting up billboards and scouring the internet in search of a 15-year-old who has something of theirs.

No, some genius kid hasn’t hijacked a cruise ship.

The search has been conducted in the name of social media, Snapchat to be precise.

Darian Lipscomb of Prospect, Virginia in the US was paid a visit recently by representatives of the cruise line requesting his Snapchat handle: @CarnivalCruise.

The BBC reports the teenager was greeted by a truck with his name on it and offered a free trip to Spain for his family.

Reports indicate the cruise is worth over $6,000.

Why did a 15-year-old claim the Snapchat handle @CarnivalCruise?

According to the BBC, the teen created the handle in 2012 when he was nine-years-old for a Snapchat account he used to share his holiday with friends.

Carnival plastered the teen’s town with signs featuring Shaquille O’Neal requesting anyone who knows Darian to contact the company.

“We thought this would be a fun way to claim our handle and reward a ‘superfan’ at the same time,” a spokeswoman for Carnival told the BBC.

Who knew Snapchat was good for more than just it’s adorable filters?
