Man admits to murdering travel agent

A man has admitted to murdering Tui travel agent Cassie Hayes in January of this year outside of her place of work.

Andrew Burke is speculated to have killed Hayes in an act of defiance against his ex-girlfriend, who was at the time seeing Hayes.

Burke has now been charged with the murder of Hayes.

According to The Mirror UK, Burke did not enter a plea to the murder charge when he appeared in court on Monday, and his solicitor told a judge “he will accept responsibility for her homicide”.

Hayes was an assistant manager at the Southport town centre branch of Tui in Merseyside, UK.

As per The Mirror UK, David McLachlan, QC, defending, told Liverpool Crown Court: “There will be no issue that she was unlawfully killed.

“He will accept responsibility for her homicide and the issue will be whether or not partial defence applies in the case.”

Burke was also charged with possessing an offensive weapon in public.

During the hearing, Judge David Aubrey told McLachlan: “Your client admits the unlawful killing of the deceased.

“The court is obliged to give sufficient time and opportunity to ascertain whether there is a partial and I emphasise partial defence available to the defence and that can only be determined or otherwise by the completion of the relevant medical reports.”

Merseyside Police released a tribute to Hayes after her death, with Hayes’ partner Laura Williams adding: “Cassie is my partner and words will not explain my sorrow and loss.”

“She is the most amazing, gorgeous, selfless and strong person I know. She is my future wife and my forever.”

Hayes’ family also issued a tribute: “Cassie was an amazing, kind human being who would do anything for anyone.”

“She doted on all her family and our loss is beyond calculation.”
