Midweek Interview with Berjaya Times Square Hotel’s Mondi Mecja

Travel Weekly’s Midweek Interviews are the digital equivalent to public streaking when it comes to revealing all. And the latest, with Berjaya Times Square Hotel area general manager Mondi Mecja, is no different.

The challenge for the industry is…

Airbnb. They are making it more challenging for the hotel industry at the present.

The things I like about my job…

Meeting people; daily almost I meet a new/different person… with their own unique personality.

I am comfortable meeting different people so their name and the name of our hotel gets out into the community and associates to want to come work here

And the frustrations are…

Not being able to meet all guest expectations at times

If I didn’t work in travel I would be…

A chef

Favourite airline?

Malaysian Airlines

My proudest moment was…

Being a Father for the 1st time… 19 Years ago…?

The naughtiest thing I ever did was…

Sangria at My best friends party…

It was a mix of different spirits… it was anything but not Sangria!

I try to relax by…

Reading a book or watching Sitcoms on Netflix

The last time I feared for my life was…

When I went bungee jumping…

I was tight and did it with my 15-year-old daughter…..scared to death jumping together.

If I can, I always try to avoid…

Traffic jams…

KL is well known for those

I really wish I had…

More hours in a day…

The best advice I’ve ever received was…

Understand the hotel’s business model from a 360-degree level, meaning the viewpoint of ownership of the hotel as well as the associates and the guests.

I don’t understand why people…

Are so sensitive at times!

My greatest weakness is…

When I start smth I can’t stop till I get it done.

And my greatest strength is…

Passion

If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would…

Invest it.

If I was prime minister I would…

I would really focus my efforts on kids… as they are our future.

If I could be someone else for one day I would be a…

Fighter Jet Pilot… would love to try the adrenaline of flying a jet.

I’ve always wanted to travel to…

Brazil… that’s among the few places I haven’t visit yet… Rio.

My favourite holiday was…

Koh Samui
