Sweden unveils floating retreat and spa

At this point, we were sure there was little any Scandinavian country could do to become cooler than they already are.

But alas, they’ve proved us wrong once again.

The latest effortlessly cool invention? A floating spa in the Arctic of course!

That’s right, Sweden is has opened a health retreat which floats on the Lule River and is only open through the summer months.

The Arctic Bath Hotel is located in Kiruna, a small village in northern Lapland.

According to the hotel’s website, the Arctic Bath follows the success of the ‘Treahotel’, another equally as impressive archtectural hotel.

“Inspired by the success of Treehotel the floating open-air cold bath is planned on Luleriver to be situated downstream from the bridges of Bodtraskfors.”

“Arctic Bath will be a year round attraction, summertime free-floating and wintertime frozen on Luleriver.”

“Activities include cold baths, different water activities, several saunas, spa treatments, reception, shop, lounge and restaurant.

A press release for the hotel says:

“The circular shape of spa and Arctic Bath creates a protected environment sheltering guests and creating a haven to relax and soak up the local Arctic environment,

“This will be a one-of-a kind Arctic experience. Although all seven buildings will be securely anchored in place they are freely floating in water or frozen into ice.”

The Arctic Bath will house one spa treatment room, four saunas, an outside bath and a hot bath.

Guests will be able to stay overnight in one of the six floating hotel rooms, so start saving now!
