80% agents rank work happiness as 8/10 or higher: study

A new survey out of America has shown that a whopping 80 per cent of agents rate their job happiness level as being 8/10 or above.

US travel association, MAST Travel Network, recently ran survey across its 220 agency members across the US and Canada to find out just what about their jobs makes them happy.

According to Travel Pulse, 33 per cent of agents rated their happiness level at 10/10, with 28 per cent voting nine, and 19 per cent ranking their happiness at eight.

At the other end of the spectrum, just one per cent of respondents rated their contentment at work at two out of 10.

The survey also found that 58 per cent of responding agents believe being in their profession brings them a huge sense of accomplishment, while 75 per cent said a passion for travel, paired with the opportunities to travel for work, lured them into the industry.

Per the Travel Pulse article, travel agents listed the following gratifying aspects of their job:

  • Happy and appreciative clients
  • Helping people realise their dreams
  • Hearing clients talk about great memories
  • Finding the perfect destination for clients
  • Capturing repeat and referral business.

Similarly, MAST asked agents how they find meaning in their work, to which respondents ranked these reasons:

  • Helping people
  • Learning about the world
  • Sharing in people’s excitement
  • Knowing my experience helps someone find the best vacation
  • Knowing clients true me with their vacation

Thirty per cent of the agents said family holidays were the most fun to plan, with honeymoons pulling 23 per cent of the votes, followed by luxury trips at 20 per cent, adventure planning at 15 per cent, and multigenerational trips coming in with six per cent of votes.

The agents also ranked Australia among their top 10 destinations for travel.

“Being a travel advisor is a viable career choice,” MAST President and COO John Werner said, per Travel Pulse.

“The opportunities are truly limitless. But outside the travel industry, this is not well known. MAST and many others in the travel industry are trying to change this perception.

“At times, it’s glamorous. And what can be more fun than talking about peoples’ dreams and bucket lists?”
