Intrepid launches epic eating challenge to foodies

We definitely don’t need to be told twice to eat as much food as humanly possible while travelling.

In fact, some of our happiest memories from holidays involve us eating a takeaway pastry alone on church steps in some fantastically delicious European city.

And clearly, we’re not alone in this.

Intrepid Travel has been listening to our prayers, and have given us even more reason to consume everything in sight with their new ‘foodie challenge’.

Eat the World is an epic 101-day gastronomic adventure across nine countries that will see travellers munching, crunching, sipping and slurping their way through more than 150 local meals and delicacies.

Eat the World combines some of the adventure company’s most popular food itineraries all with a focus on grassroots culinary experiences that don’t cost the earth and allow travellers to discover the real people and inspiration behind the foods we love.

Intrepid has experienced a steady 20 per cent growth in bookings for their Real Food Adventures since the first tour five years ago.

Cara Brown, Food – Brand & Product Manager at Intrepid said, “More and more people identify themselves as “foodies” with reality cooking TV shows flooding our screens and food photos dominating our social media feeds.

“However, despite proclaiming to be a nation of “foodies”, recent figures show an increase in online takeaway food sales is restricting our culinary experiences to the couch.

“At Intrepid, we challenge self-proclaimed “foodies” to experiences beyond their living room – after all, food is about socialising and experiencing other cultures,” she added.

Combining seven Real Food Adventures, Eat the World begins in Delhi, India and takes in the sights and flavours of Vietnam, Cambodia, South Korea, Japan, Mexico, Israel and the Palestine Territories, before ending in Marrakech, Morocco. For foodies who take up the challenge, they will experience all seven tours for the price of six ( $33,500).

“From exotic Portuguese inspired flavours in Goa to a taco-crawl through the streets of Mexico City, authentic Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) to Shakshuka in Tel Aviv – Eat the World is the perfect way for Aussies to combine their passion for food and travel.

The first tour will run from March to July 2018 and includes 73 breakfasts, 42 lunches and 36 dinners at a range of family-run restaurants, rural homes, temples and monasteries, local markets, street food stalls and hands-on cooking classes.
