8 Father’s Day gifts from the travel industry
Forgot all about Father’s Day and need a better gift than socks? Thank your lucky stars for this.
1. Skydive Australia aims for bucketlisters with it’s quirky new national ad campaign
Leading adventure tourism brand Skydive Australia (also known as Skydive the Beach) is honing in on the bucket list market of 30 and over –a segment it hasn’t traditionally aimed at – for its latest marketing campaign.
Originally launched for Mother’s Day, the campaign departs from typical images of aircraft jumps and freefalling, instead working to drive appeal by projecting the euphoric feeling jumpers get immediately after landing a tandem skydive.
The campaign will feature nationally across newspapers, magazines and below the line channels from Sunday 20th August, aiming to drive traction ahead of Father’s Day.
The idea for the campaign evolved from research that found tandem skydiving cleared the mind and re-booted the psyche. The campaign is centred on the idea that “I could be different as a result of this experience” and stimulating a desire to improve one’s quality of life by checking items off the bucket list.
2. Fit for a king: Intercontinental Sanctuary Cove Resort offers a bespoke gentleman’s high tea this Fathers Day
Progressive and deliciously different, high tea has been turned on its head this Father’s Day, Sunday 3 September, as Verandah Restaurant & Bar offers a special Gentleman’s High Tea.
Conceptualised by Executive Chef Matt Hart, the Gentleman’s High Tea has been tailor-made with the gents in mind, delivering a decadent (yet manly!) experience for dad and the family.
Designed to follow the traditional three-tiered stand ritual, the Gentleman’s High Tea journey begins with s’mores in a jar featuring gooey marshmallow, whisky ganache and short bread. Scones and finger sandwiches are swapped on the second tier for gourmet lamb sliders with charcoal brioche, fetta and baby spinach, alongside sweet potato fries with jalapeño aioli.
The third tier presents a burst of Asian influence with Malaysian chicken drumettes with sweet chilli and wild mushroom arancini, shaved pecorino, truffle oil and snow pea tendrils.
While tea is optional, no gentleman’s high tea would be complete without a beer to celebrate. The Gentleman’s High Tea includes one craft beer of choice on tap for guests over 18 years, with the Verandah Restaurant & Bar’s iconic whisky flights available for purchase.

Forget about that patterned tie and matching sock set – this year, spoil Dad with an experience he’ll never forget. Whether he’s a history buff or wine lover, AAT Kings has selected some of the best experiences for every well-deserving father.
For the wine lover:
Australia is home to some of the world’s best wine regions and nestled in NSW country you’ll find the picturesque Hunter Valley. If your Dad enjoys the finer things in life, particularly when it comes to wine – leave the driving to one of AAT Kings’ expert Driver Guides and treat him to the Hunter Valley Harvest Wine Experience.
Spend a blissful day hopping from one winery to the next sampling a variety of Shiraz, Semillon and Cabernet Sauvignon and indulge in a delicious lunch of seasonal local produce, complemented by a range of wines. There’s the chance to pick up some homemade treats at the Hunter Valley Gardens Village before heading back to Sydney.
For the wildlife lover:
Travel in comfort to the home of the Crocodile Hunter, Queensland’s Australia Zoo and let his wild side come out. Dad’s jokes won’t be the most dangerous thing you’ll encounter that day, see a collection of Australia’s most deadly reptiles and over 1,200 animals!
Explore the many exhibits including the brand new Africa display and daily wildlife shows. Give dad the chance to see exotic animals such as the giraffe, rhino and zebra all living together on a wide open plain and get up close and personal with some of Australia’s unique wildlife such as kangaroos, emus and snakes. He’ll be bragging about this for years.
For the history buff:
Let him show off all his knowledge of Australian History with a visit to Australia’s Capital City, Canberra. AAT Kings will make sure you have a great spot to capture your time with Dad in front of the entire city at Mt. Ainslie, the summit of Canberra’s National Park.
You’ll be greeted by a local guide at the Australian War Memorial for a moving experience wandering through the memorial that commemorates the lives lost in the Wars of the Commonwealth of Australia. Feel free to take your time and share a special moment with your father before moving onto Parliament House to learn more of its architecture, history, artwork and the Australian parliamentary democratic process.
For the whole family:
A day trip to the Great Barrier Reef is one experience every Australian family needs to tick off their bucket list. Unwind, soak up the sun and create some memories as a family with a Great Barrier Reef Cruise daycation, getting some educational experiences in for the kids at the same time.
Expand their young minds and show them the beauty of the Australian reef up close, where they will snorkel, hear a reef presentation from a naturalist and view coral and tropical fish first hand in a semi-submersible craft. (Applicable for those travelling with a child older than four years of age)
For the father-to-be:
If you don’t have time to take a short break or a babymoon, a daycation for the future dad may be the perfect way to show him just how much you appreciate him. Celebrate your time together before two becomes three and watch the first rays of sun set the Red Centre alight, while enjoying a warming cup of tea or coffee as you take in an iconic Uluru Sunrise.
Continue your time together stopping at a viewing point that boasts the most spectacular views of Kata Tjuta, be sure to have your camera at the ready to capture the moment.
For a boys only adventure:
