Skytrax announce world’s best airlines

Virgin Australia, Qantas and Jetstar all took home a title at this year’s world airline Awards, as a number of other airlines showed off their strengths.

Skytrax held the inaugural ‘World Airline Awards’  last night at the Paris Air Show, with Qatar Airways claiming ‘Airline of the Year’, stealing the crown from last year’s winner, Emirates, who’s currently scrapped all flights into Qatar.

The award comes off the back of Qatar’s severed relationship with most of the Gulf states and Arab countrieswhich has seen Qatar Airways fight to stay in the air.

However, it appears that airspace dramas have not hindered the airline’s position in the global aviation playing field, being crowned World’s Best Airline as well as the World’s Best Business Class, Best First Class Airline Lounge and Best Airline in the Middle East.

“It is a very proud moment for Qatar Airways to be named the World’s Best Business Class, the Best Business Class Airline Lounge and Best Airline Staff in the Middle East by the prestigious Skytrax Airline Awards, not only for myself, but for every individual at Qatar Airways who creates the passengers’ experience,” Group Chief Executive, Qatar Airways, Akbar Al Baker said.

Qatar Airways also recently announced it would launch 24 new destinations in spite of the ban.

The Skytrax top ten also featured Singapore, ANA All Nippon, Emirates, Cathay Pacific, EVA Air, Lufthansa, Etihad, Hainan and Garuda.

Our Australian airlines also had a fantastic night of winnings, with Qantas claiming the title of World’s Best Premium Economy Class and Best Premium Economy Class Airline Seat.

Virgin Australia was awarded the Best Airline in Australia/Pacific and Best Airline Staff in Australia/Pacific, while Jetstar Airways took the title of Best Low-Cost Airline in Australia/Pacific.

The Skytrax award for World’s Best Cabin Staff was claimed again by Garuda Indonesia, and the World’s Cleanest Airplane Cabins was awarded to EVA Air.

World’s Best Airline Economy Class was awarded to Thai Airways, while the World’s Best Regional Airline Award was claimed by Bangkok Airways for a second consecutive year.

The Best Airline In Europe was awarded to Lufthansa, and the Best Business Class Seat claimed by Singapore Airlines.

Skytrax awards also included:
