Industry leader gets “travel agent” tattoo

Tattoos are for life. So they better mean something important to you.

Adolfo Perez, Carnival Cruise Line’s Vice President of Sales and Trade Marketing made a passionate statement to the industry on the weekend with a permanent vow of his love.

“Travel Agents Rock” is now proudly tattooed on his left arm. And it sounds like it was worth it too, apparently only hitting a pain threshold of three, on a scale of one to 10.

According to Travel Weekly USA, around 150 travel agents and family members watched on for 20 minutes as Perez was inked on stage at Carnival’s Agentpalooza in New Orleans.

“I think everybody at work thinks I’m crazy to do this,” he said. But when it was proposed to him he liked the idea very much, making it a welcome addition to the tattoos he already has on his body.

“It wasn’t my idea, but I liked it.”

According to TW US, Perez said there were five or six designs considered, but the winner was “Travel Agents Rock” with a lightning bolt.

On Facebook, Perez shared photos of the event, commenting, “Oh yes! I got a tattoo today and it states Travel Agents Rock! It’s not air-brushed, it’s the real deal.

“This is how much I believe in all of you! Thank you NOLA for your amazing support of #AgentPalooza and thank you travel agents for your past and future support of Carnival!”

It was a very rock star moment, ironically the theme of Agentpalooza, a six-city bus tour by Carnival sales executives which aims to show travel agents that they’re absolute rock stars.

Per TW US, throughout the New Orleans event, agents were transported in a white stretch limo and greeted by excited Carnival employees posing as fans.

The “fans” would beg for their autographs as the agents exited the limo, holding up placards reading “I’m Your Biggest Fan” and “Carnival + Travel Agents 4Eva.” Agents had their photos snapped by Carnival-hired paparazzi and could don wigs and get their faces made up like David Bowie-style glam rockers.

“The whole idea is to give them a rock star moment,” Kirk Neal, Carnival’s Regional Vice President of Trade Sales for the East Coast and Caribbean, told Travel Weekly USA.
