70% of Aussies don’t know where Air NZ flies: CEO
Air New Zealand’s CEO Christopher Luxon told media at the NZ TRENZ conference this week that Aussies can be a bit thick when it comes to where the airline flies.
Well, those are our words, not his, but he did claim that a whopping seven out of 10 Australians don’t actually know the carrier flies more than just trans-Tasman services.
As a result, Luxon said there’s a “big focus” on educating Aussies to all the great routes Air NZ has to offer.
“We’re 35 per cent bigger than we were four to five years ago,” Luxon said.
“But big insights show that only seven out of 10 Australians think we fly beyond the Tasman.”
“We’re building the trans-Tasman capacity up by three per cent in the coming year,” he added, saying it reflects the holiday growth into NZ, and Queenstown in particular.
“We can now reach into Australia and bring Aussies through New Zealand and onto the US and South America.”
Luxon noted that Air NZ wasn’t just the best in its own country, but that it recently hopped across the Tasman to steal the top spot in AMR’s Corporate Reputation Index, beating our own Qantas and Virgin Australia.
“Aussies are discovering Air New Zealand does a lot more than just fly across the Tasman, and they’re discovering they can move from Australia to NZ and to rest of the world,” Luxon added.
