Royal Caribbean set to sail Cuba in 2017

Royal Caribbean International and Azamara Club cruises will start sailing to Cuba in 2017, giving travellers more reason to explore Old Havana

The Cuban government has approved Royal Carribbean Cruises to begin sailing the Caribbean Island onboard Empress of the Seas from April next year, with Azamara Club Cruises’ sailings soon to be announced.

The new sailing destination will provide travellers with a unique experience to explore Old Havana – a UNESCO World Heritage site with cruises from Miami or Tampa.

The newly revitalised Royal Caribbean The Empress of the Seas, fitted with Cuban themes elements from salsa music to sequinned and feathered Broadway-style shows, is a five-night sail from Miami on 17 April 2017. The largest ship to sail to Cuba from the United States, Empress will provide holiday-makers with the opportunity to discover the timeless sights, sounds and culture of this exciting island nation with especially curated “people-to-people” holidays that will immerse passengers in the natural beauty of Cuba, its architecture, cuisine, music and art.

“Our guests have expressed real interest in having the opportunity to experience Cuba, and we look forward to bringing them there,” said Richard D. Fain, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.

Empress provides travellers with more opportunities to sample the unique Royal Caribbean experience from Tampa, as local experts will guide travellers around Old Havana – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – spoiled with historic neighbourhoods, local artisan markets, Havana’s very own rum museum and Hemingway’s former residence – Finca La Vigia – all of which makes Cuba the gem of the Caribbean.
