Singapore Airlines delays launch of new Singapore-Jakarta-Sydney Route

Singapore Airlines delays launch of new Singapore-Jakarta-Sydney Route

Plans by Singapore Airlines (SIA) to launch a new route linking Singapore, Jakarta and Sydney have been delayed.

Indonesian civil aviation authorities informed SIA that the new three-times-weekly Singapore-Jakarta-Sydney flights to begin operating on 23 November 2016 have been delayed as they are unable to approve the flights due to runway maintenance work at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, SIA said.

The move comes even after the Indonesian civil aviation authorities had issued SIA written approval, and SIA had secured the necessary airport slots.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said it was aware of the delay in the launch of the new route.

“SIA’s new service will enhance air connectivity between Singapore, Jakarta and Sydney, which will facilitate people and trade flows between these cities,” CAAS said.

“We hope the Indonesian civil aviation authorities can give approval for this new service as soon as possible so that it can be launched.”

Singapore Airlines, one of Australia’s largest foreign carriers operating 130 weekly services across the country, will progressively contact customers with bookings on this route and help put them on other flights. SIA has issued an apology for any inconvenience caused to their customers.
