Urban Adventures biggest 100,000 tours giveaway

In an attempt to nab a growing breed of Airbnb generation travellers, Intrepid’s Urban Adventures has launched ‘Locals on Tap’ meet-ups for travellers yearning for local culture.

The new range of ‘Locals on Tap’ tours are the latest extension of the sharing economy and Urban Adventures are giving away 100,000 new tours from October to December to let travellers get a taste of the new product.

According to the company, these tours aim to offer another incredibly important travel resource; local knowledge. The ‘Locals on Tap’ experiences last between one and two hours and include a walk through a city’s iconic or emerging local neighbourhood. The tours end at an independent bar or café, giving travellers the chance to ask detailed questions about the city.

“Everything from riding public transport and finding the best places to eat, to getting tickets for sporting events can be covered in this informal Q&A session. This local knowledge is being offered completely in real time. From pop-up restaurants, underground concerts and new store openings, to street closures and transit delays, the value of immediate local knowledge is undeniable,” the company stated.

The new tours are said to be aimed at a new breed of travellers who swap hotels for shared spaces, skip tourist sites in favour of local cafes and markets, and want to feel like they’re immersed in the local culture and is also targeting those travelling solo, one of the fastest growing trends in travel. The ‘Locals on Tap’ meet-ups will be offered in 50 cities, 365 days a year, with over 150 local guides and city experts.

Urban Adventures currently takes over 140,000 travellers annually on day tours in 91 countries and 154 cities. The ‘Locals On Tap’ tours will be a complete role reversal that enables travellers to customise their trip and create their own itineraries with the guidance of a local.

“For over five years we have created day tours that offer experiences travellers may not find in a guidebook” says Urban Adventures General Manager, Tony Carne.

“Locals on Tap will be the next innovation for us, where our guides take a step back and allow for customers to dictate what insider tips and information they really want.”

The tours are available in 50 cities, including Florence, Lisbon, Berlin, Shanghai, Honolulu and Singapore. For the full list see urbanadventures.com/locals-on-tap
