Cambodia’s Water & Moon festival about to kick off

Travellers looking for a unique reason to visit Cambodia this November need look no farther than the Cambodian Water Festival or Bon Om Touk.

The traditional Khmer festival marks the end of the rainy season and the reversal of the flow of the Tonle Sap River.

Celebrated on the date of the full moon each year (usually in November), Siem Reap is a fantastic home base to take in the festivities – including boat races, nighttime boat parades with illuminated vessels, carnival rides and traditional music and dance performances.

Visitors touring Cambodia during this celebration will also have the opportunity to try Dal Om Bok – a special cake that is only made at this time of year to celebrate the Water Festival – and to take part in the salutation of the moon or Sampeah Preah Khe.

Journeys Within Tour Company can take you to all the action, offering guests a special two-day Water & Moon Festival touring package in Siem Reap that will expose guests to the best of this unique festival.

Highlights include monks performing a traditional water blessing to each of the decorated boats taking part in the festivities, a village tour where you will witness the baking of the Dal Om Bok cakes, the boat races on the river, traditional floating lantern event and fireworks display that concludes the ceremonies.

Travellers looking for a last-minute Southeast Asia getaway in November should be planning now if they would like to attend the Water & Moon Festival in Siem Reap as accommodations will become more difficult to get as the festival approaches.

Journeys Within is currently offering Bon Om Touk festival tours to both its tour company guests as well as to clients of partner agencies and tour operators through its Journeys Within Ground Operations service.
