Master your Californian foodie bucket list with OpenTable
Foodies rejoice! MasterChef has touched down in California. As viewers are left mouth-watering – and with an appetite for a USA getaway – leading restaurant reservation app OpenTable has revealed some of its favourite restaurants for those who love to let their tastebuds do the travelling.
San Francisco
Parallel 37 offers globally-inspired cuisine that is artistically creative, disciplined and intriguing. Located in the heart of San Francisco, the restaurant’s chef, Chef Rotondo, uses locally-sourced, hyper-seasonal produce which is farmer-grown to inspire and delight each diner that walks through the doors.
The celebrated Quince Restaurant is a must-have dining experience for any dedicated foodie that loves to splurge on fine dining. Chef Michael Tusk was named “Best Chef: Pacific” by the James Beard Foundation in 2011, while the restaurant was awarded its second Michelin star in 2013. Situated in San Francisco’s historic Jackson Square, Quince Restaurant features a nightly tasting menu that highlights the seasonal bounty of Northern California.
Named after Chef Perello’s grandmother, Frances is an ode to refined but comfortable sensibilities in both food and decor. The restaurant is nestled between Noe and Sanchez on 17th Street in the heart of the Castro. A welcoming addition to the bustling neighbourhood, Frances lends a warm and comfortable space to enjoy its ingredient-driven dishes paired with a tall glass of wine.
Los Angeles
Dubbed one of the best seafood restaurants in the LA district, Fishing with Dynamite is an oyster bar and seafood house where East meets West in the South Bay. Chef and co-owner David LeFevre brings an upbeat and lively approach to a tradition in a fitout that mixes beachside lifestyle with retro feel.
The awards speak for themselves – two Michelin Stars, named Best Restaurant in 2013 and 2014 by LA Times and Chef of the Year by Angeleno Magazine – Providence is one of LA’s best restaurants located in the heart of Hollywood. Perfectly plated dishes take over the table while the dishes’ flavours melt in your mouth!
New kid on the block Maré is making waves in the LA and California dining scene. The newly opened restaurant has been named one of ‘the best restaurants of the summer’, and is located in coastal town of Santa Monica. Maré is inspired by a European city by the coast…a little getaway to relax and share good food with good company.
San Diego
The latest concept brought to San Diego by Brian Malarkey; Herb & Wood is a new Little Italy stunner that boasts a flavoursome Italian menu. The restaurant is decked out with plush booths, creative artwork and mood lighting. The perfect dining experience for those intrigued by design and taste.
One Door North is a new American bar and eatery that pays homage to the outdoors with the spirit of adventure, serving only fresh farm to table cuisine. The glamping styled restaurant has ignited a passion for quality rustic fare in the heart of San Diego’s North Park neighbourhood.
Chef Deborah Scott’s Island Prime highlights her innovative and eclectic style, which will only be enhanced by the spectacular panoramic view and attentive Southern hospitality. Soak up the restaurant’s amazing view overlooking the beautiful San Diego harbour while sipping on a crisp white wine.
