4 tips to sell Broadway
You’ve booked your clients on a dream holiday to New York, but the next ticket you need to supply is one to a show on Broadway.
With the number of Aussies to the city that never sleeps on the rise, a trip would be incomplete without a walk through Central Park, in a similar vein as it would be without checking out the lights of Times Square or experiencing a Broadway musical. It just has to be done.
Take the hassle out of nabbing a sought after ticket by pre-booking clients a hot seat at one of the many spectacular shows on stage every day.
With an expansive portfolio of new and classic Broadway musicals, Broadway Inbound’s The Broadway Collection makes it easy for travel agents to pre-book musicals through their preferred wholesale partner before clients ever set foot in NYC. But first, find out what type of show would suit. Here’s four easy ways to sell Broadway.
Fun for the whole family:
- Finding Neverland is the new Broadway musical starring Matthew Morrison from the hit TV show Glee. This breathtaking show follows playwright J.M. Barrie as he summons the courage to become the writer—and the man—he yearns to be. Barrie finds the inspiration he’s been missing when he meets the beautiful widow Sylvia and her four young sons: Jack, George, Michael and Peter. Delighted by the boys’ hilarious escapades, Barrie conjures the magical world of Neverland and writes a play unlike any the high-society London theatergoers have ever seen. Packed with spellbinding visuals, irresistible songs and plenty of laughs, FINDING NEVERLAND is an exciting musical for all ages.
- The Tony Award®-winning Matilda The Musical is the story of an extraordinary girl who dreams of a better life. Armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, Matilda dares to take a stand and change her own destiny. Rolling Stone calls the show “hands down the BEST MUSICAL of the season.” Based on the beloved novel by Roald Dahl, MATILDA has won 47 international awards, and continues to thrill sold-out audiences of all ages on Broadway and in London’s West End.
- Discover a whole new world at Aladdin, the hit Broadway musical. From the producer of The Lion King comes the timeless story of Aladdin, a thrilling new production filled with unforgettable beauty, magic, comedy and breathtaking spectacle. It’s an extraordinary theatrical event where one lamp and three wishes make the possibilities infinite.
Newcomers:
- Travellers will be swept overboard at Dames at Sea, with uproarious laughter as Ruby, the lead character, tap dances her way through the score. Her story is that of an acting hopeful, longing to make her big break on Broadway until issues arise with the theatre itself. Her song and dance numbers patter to the Helen Hayes Theatre, the most intimate Broadway venue. Show officially opened Oct. 22, 2015.
- School of Rock, based on the 2003 blockbuster film starring Jack Black, 12 new songs penned by theatre legend Andrew Lloyd Webber (Phantom of the Opera) complete this new musical, which closely follows the plot of the movie. The cast is comprised mainly of children, who play live music on the stage. The official opening at the Winter Garden Theatre is on Dec. 6, 2015.
- Based on a more serious novel and corresponding film, The color purple returns after an acclaimed run at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory. The Oprah Winfrey produced musical has a “fresh, joyous score of jazz, ragtime, gospel and blues,” and officially opens at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre Dec. 10, 2015
Star-studded shows:
- A brand new American musical staring George Takei (best known for his role in the original “Star Trek” series). Allegiance is a touching and uplifting story, loosely based on his life. Lea Salonga (Les Miserables) will also star in this story, which centres on a family’s love, loss and heroism during the period of the Japanese–American internment in World War II. Official opening on Nov. 8, 2015.
- Academy Award, Golden Globe and Olivier nominee Keira Knightley makes her Broadway debut in a new adaption of Thérèse Raquin directed by Evan Cabnet. In this tale of love, lust, betrayal and guilt, Thérèse (Knightley) and her lover Laurent set off on a violent path that may have far worse consequences for the perpetrators than for the victims. Official Opening 28 October.
Off-broadway:
- Blue Man Group is comedy, theatre, rock concert and dance party all rolled into one. This wildly popular phenomenon delivers an unforgettable multi-sensory experience. It’s an outrageous evening of entertainment you’ll never forget. Blue Man Group has become a cultural phenomenon. The show is ever-changing, continually refreshed with new music, fresh stories, custom instruments and state-of-the-art technology. While Blue Man Group can now be seen in some of the most vibrant cities in the world, the Astor Place Theatre in New York City is the original home of the production, where the latest version of the show plays almost nightly in the most exciting, intimate theatre where the action can be seen (and felt) by all!
- Matchboxes, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, and more fill the stage with energising beats at STOMP, the inventive and invigorating stage show that’s dance, music, and comedy blended together in one electrifying rhythm. A New York icon since 1994, STOMP is “as crisp and exuberant as if it opened yesterday,” says the New York Times. New York Newsday says, “If you are looking for good entertainment, something that will absolutely amaze you, go [to STOMP] to have the time of your life.” Come and see why this dazzling crowd-pleaser has been entertaining New York audiences for nearly 20 years
