10 quirky reasons QLD is the place to be

Swap the chilly south for the sunny north this winter, and experience all Queensland has to offer.

Research by Austrade has shown that in 2014 the Sunshine State saw an increase in interstate travellers, venturing to QLD for longer holidays.

QT Hotels and Resorts has gathered the top ten facts showcasing why QLD is the perfect destination this winter… and all year round.

  1. The average temperature during winter in Daintree is 26 degrees, so there’s no need to pack your winter woolies.
  2. Queensland experiences over 300 days of sunshine every year. The Sunshine State, duh.
  3. QT Port Douglas has the only moonlight cinema that operates over winter in Australia.
  4. The Gold Coast is home to Stingray, one of Australia’s premier Tequila Bars, boasting over 50 varieties of tequila in house.
  5. Port Douglas is the only region in the world to be bordered by two World Heritage Listed areas, the Great Barrier Reef & Daintree Forest.
  6. Queensland’s Gold Coast is the theme park capital of Australia, with Dreamworld, Movie World, Sea World & Wet n’ Wild, offering buckets of fun for the whole family.
  7. Queensland is home to over 50 “big” icons including the big mango, the big rum bottle, the big pineapple and the big stubbie.
  8. Astronauts can see the Great Barrier Reef from space, it is over 2500 kilometers in length.
  9. Mossman Gorge is a short drive away from Port Douglas, featuring stunning nature & wildlife, as well as magnificent rivers, walking tracks and photo opportunities.
  10. Winter is actually the best whale watching season, with the Gold Coast being one of the most popular places in Australia to spot these magnificent mammals.

QT Hotels & Resorts has two unique escapes; QT Gold Coast and QT Port Douglas. QT Gold Coast offers a retro city escape, with the property providing the perfect mixture of surfer chic meets swim catwalk. QT Port Douglas offers an open-spaced setting with a contemporary tropical feel. Think Mad Men meets the Hamptons.
