Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo returns to NZ

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo has just announced that it will return to New Zealand next year.

First performed outside of Scotland in 2000, the Tattoo is epic in scale and entertainment value. It sells out every year when performed at Edinburgh Castle to an audience of some 220 000 people, and is viewed by a further 100 million people on television.

“The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is set to return to New Zealand in February 2016 for a run of performances that will be amongst the most spectacular ever staged,” Tattoo chief executive and producer brigadier David Allfrey said.

“In over six and a half decades our unique event has been presented abroad on only three occasions.  So, we are delighted to be returning to the country where the first of our overseas shows was successfully staged in 2000 and audiences were so welcoming and receptive to our particular brand of entertainment,” Allfrey added.

The event, featuring the UK’s best precision drill teams, pipers, fiddlers and highland dancers, will be held at Wellington’s Westpac Stadium. It will include a tribute to the ANZACs, in keeping with the commemorative events and activities surrounding the World War I centenary.

New Zealand Festival executive chair Kerry Prendergast believes the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is a once in a lifetime cultural experience that stays with people long after they see it.

Tickets on general sale 28 May via Ticketek.
