Wendy Wu turns 21, opens new office

China travel heavyweight Wendy Wu Tours has celebrated its big 21st birthday with a brand new office space.

Marking the 21 year anniversary of its first group tour to China, Wendy Wu has opened an office in Auckland, and taken its office figures to five.

It is the latest step among a number of expansion moves which include establishing major offices in London, New York, Shanghai and an outlet in South Africa.

Wendy Wu  arranged her first group tour through an Epping travel agent in 1994, and ran her first ever “China Highlights” tour with 20 people.

Word of mouth gave her the popularity she needed to continue, and Wu kicked off her namesake in 1998.

As the Australian market boomed and with repeat customers looking for other destinations, Wendy Wu Tours tacked on programs to Vietnam in 2001 and released a comprehensive India program three years later.

Her London office opened the same year and was followed by a New York branch opening in 2010.

A reintroduction into Myanmar and a launch into the Japan market in 2012 saw the tour company expand even further, before Wendy Wu Tours was appointed to operate Singapore Airlines Holidays program in Australia in 2014.

As for 2015, along with the 21st anniversary celebrations and the opening of the Auckland office, the company also celebrates the first departures of its Deluxe Holiday Range, which was introduced to the market last year.
