Sydney’s latest new restaurant and bar to jump on the scene, The Gantry, officially swung open its doors last night.

Perched on the water’s edge within Pier One Sydney Harbour, over 200 guests joined hotel owner Robert Magid at the historic venue for a cocktail reception and to savour sample dishes from executive chef Chris Irving’s menu.

Arriving beneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge, guests were greeted with Bar Manager Ben Taouss’ signature cocktails; the tasty “Lady on the Pier” (Absolut Vodka, shaken with pink grapefruit, lemon myrtle and elderflower) and “Swinging Monkey” (Monkey Shoulder, coconut water, chocolate bitters, served over hand chipped ice).

Out on the pier, guests enjoyed flutes of Moet Champagne from the living floral bar whilst watching the sunset over Walsh Bay.

The recently refurbed restaurant space revealed buffet stations, stocked with fresh, seasonal produce from top NSW suppliers, including Australia on a Plate, Cooks Co-op, Epicurean Harvest, Joto Fresh Fish and De Costi Seafood.

Throughout the evening guests delighted in sampling Irving’s trendy farm to table canapés, including grilled with rosemary, lemon & anchovy, zucchini flowers with Hawkesbury goats curd, and goat’s milk pudding with rhubarb jelly.

Robert Magid toasted to the maritime past of the hot spot, before the event wrapped up with some live musical tunes from Chloe West and DJ Scott Pullen.

Revamped by leading architectural firm Bates Smart, The Gantry Restaurant & Bar’s design draws on the industrial roots of Pier One, with a contemporary polished finish. Much like the design pays homage to the property’s past, both the restaurant and bar menus have been created with an emphasis on history.
