Perth welcomes third IHG property

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed a management agreement with UNIR Hotels Pty Ltd, which will see the iconic five-star hotel brand occupy a prime location in the Perth CBD.

Planted on the corner of King and Hay Street, UNIR Hotels’ operations will commence in early 2017, marking the sixth InterContinental property down under.

After 18 years of successful management, UNIR Hotels has decided to redevelop the Rydges Hotel, with the site being converted into a luxury InterContinental property, boasting 240-rooms, executive function spaces with boardrooms and intimate meeting rooms, a business centre and a Club Lounge.

The location also boasts plenty of advantages, being among the city’s top business and leisure facilities, including Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre, His Majesty’s Theatre, and the renowned King Street shopping precinct with brands such as Prada, Gucci and Chanel.

To add to the thriving food and beverage scene in the area, a bar-restaurant concept will be developed, paying homage to the fresh, innovative culinary scene of Western Australia.

“The signing of InterContinental Perth is pivotal to IHG’s expansion plans in Australasia,” IHG’s in-coming chief operating officer for Australasia & Japan Karin Sheppard said.

“This hotel will be one where comfort is balanced with sophistication, and elegance does not interfere with practicality.”

InterContinental Perth will be the third IHG property to land in the city, joining Holiday Inn Perth and Crowne Plaza Perth.

Perth Lord Mayor the Hon. Lisa Scaffidi has also welcomed the announcement, saying it is pleasing to see the InterContinental brand return to the city.

“The property is in the heart of our central business district and I have no doubt the proposed refurbishment will give a new face to a property that is well known and utilised by visitors to our city of business and leisure purposes,” she said.
