Kenya attack away from tourist hotspots

Kenya attack away from tourist hotspots
By admin

Early on the morning of November 22, a group of suspected armed insurgents from Somalia attacked unarmed civilians travelling by bus in Mandera County, five kilometres from the Kenya-Somalia border.

An estimated 28 people were killed in the incident and some injured, with security agencies already working to track down the attackers.

The Cabinet Secretary for East African Affairs, Commerce and Tourism Phyllis Kandie has offered her condolences and prayers to all those affected by the incident.

The Kenya Tourism Board wishes to clarify that no tourists were in the area at the time of the attack, and that Mandera County is located in the far north of Kenya, an area not frequented by tourists.

Mandera County is 1000km from Nairobi, 1240km from the Maasai Mara and 1100km from Mombasa.

Tourism activity throughout the rest of the vast country continues as normal, with travellers still visiting the country’s safari circuits and popular coastal resorts of Diani, Malindi, Watamu and Kilifi.

The Kenya Tourism Board will share more information as it becomes available.
