Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia have launched a world-first conversion initiative that enables members of KrisFlyer and Velocity Frequent Flyer to convert miles and points between programmes.

KrisFlyer and Velocity Frequent Flyer members are now able to convert their Miles and Points at a rate of 1.35 to 1.00, offering greater access to Reward Seats and flight upgrades.

The conversion rate reflects the fact that each airline programme operates in a different reward programme currency.

By converting their miles to velocity points, KrisFlyer members will now also be able to benefit from Velocity’s range of non-flight redemption rewards.

Singapore Airlines’ senior vice-president for marketing and planning Lee Wen Fen said the airline is proud to offer members this new frequent flyer space.

“We are constantly seeking to enhance our loyalty programme to ensure that it provides even more benefits to our members. By unlocking greater redemption opportunities, we are now able to provide full synergy to our customers through our alliance with Virgin Australia,” Wen Fen said.

Velocity Frequent Flyer chief executive officer Neil Thompson said the company is continually looking for opportunities such as this to make sure members get the most out of the programme.

“We recognise the value our alliance with Singapore Airlines offers, providing access to more than 80 international destinations, and we are thrilled to now enable our members to experience the best of both our networks through these unique features,” Thompson said.

In order for members to take advantage of the new conversion initiative, customers need to be a member of both programmes, with more information found at KrisFlyer and Velocity websites.
