Virgin travel insurance comes out on top

Virgin Australia Travel Insurance, which is underwritten by Allianz Global Assistance, has been awarded the Canstar award for Outstanding Value for Domestic Travel Insurance.

Virgin has won the award five years in a row now, with Canstar judging the award based on the policies surrounding pricing, as well as a feature score based on 13 different feature categories.

Canstar rates a number of international and domestic travel insurance companies for both its domestic and international winners, and focuses on areas such as single, couple and family policies, star ratings and a range of other travel destinations and features.

According to Allianz Global Assistance National Account Manager for Virgin Australia Chris Harris-Huges, the three key selling points for domestic travel insurance include cover for cancellations or lost deposits, cover for luggage and personal effects, and rental vehicle excess cover.

“Cancellation and Luggage cover is by far the most popular travel insurance product currently being sold by Virgin Australia, with approximately 70% of travel insurance sales being for this type of cover,” Harris-Huges said.

“Travel both domestically and internationally comes with similar dangers. It’s always advisable to take out the appropriate level of insurance for peace of mind, so you know you are covered no matter where you are or what you are doing.”
