Egypt safe for travellers, says tourism minister
By admin

Egypt’s tourism minister has attempted to reassure its worldwide travel industry partners that travellers to its main tourism areas are in no danger, despite recent violent outbreaks in parts of the country.

In a video message, Hisham Zaazou, insisted that while the situation in Egypt is improving “by the day, by the hour”, the Red Sea and Southern Sinai areas popular with tourists are entirely “safe and sound”.

“I feel confident to send you that message,” he said, adding the lack of a curfew in those areas is proof of their safety.

Zaazou urged governments to reconsider their travel advisories warning against travel to the destination, or at least to adjust them to recognise the security of the Red Sea and South Sinai regions.

“Egypt has a beautiful future when it comes to tourism,” he said. “I believe you are keen to send your clients to Egypt as soon as you can. Please do that and please ask your governments to reconsider their travel advisories.”

Travel industry partners unsure of the situation should make contact, he suggested, promising more updates will follow.

The last few weeks have seen a number of operators cancel Egypt departures with plans to reasses the situation in several weeks time.
