Emirates, AFTA launch travel trade scholarship
By admin

Emirates has underlined its commitment to the travel trade with the launch of a new travel agent scholarship program in partnership with the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA).

The inaugural Emirates National Travel Consultant Scholarship will recognise an “up-and-coming” agent destined for a long-term career in the travel industry, according to Barry Brown, the airline's divisional senior vice president commercial operations east.

The recipient of the scholarship will receive up to $10,000 to be put towards an education course to further their career.

They will also take a business class trip for two to Dubai where they will enjoy a five-night itinerary and meet key Emirates personnel, along with a visit to Melbourne for the Melbourne Cup.

“Together with AFTA, who will shortlist and judge the finalists, we will nurture and educate young talent to continue to support the growth of the travel trade industry in Australia,” Brown said.

“With around 80% of our revenue in Australia derived from trade, Emirates is committed to its travel trade partners.”

Jayson Westbury, AFTA chief executive, pledged his support to the new scheme which is announced just weeks after Emirates was named Best International Airline at the 2013 National Travel Industry Awards.

“The launch of this innovative scholarship program only cements this position for the airline,” he said. “We look forward to working with Emirates and announcing the winner at the NTIA 2014 event.”

More details and criteria for applicants will be released shortly.
