Toga Hotels set to expand

Toga Hotels has revealed plans for new brands if a proposed joint venture with Far East Orchard is approved by shareholders next week.

The joint venture will see the Singaporean hospitality group take a 50% stake and invest $225 million into Toga Hotels.

“They (Far East Orchard) operate brands in Singapore and Malaysia so we might bring those in and they may open our brands in Asia,” Toga area general manager Caspar Schmidt said.

Schmidt flagged that there will be more detailed announcements about the hospitality group’s expansion next week.

Toga Hotels are eyeing Wellington for potential development following plans to extend its airport runway.

“In three years time it’s going to be a fully international airport, so you’ll have lots of people requiring hotels,” Schmidt said.

Toga's latest property is Adina Bondi Beach which opened June 17 and has had a 60% occupancy rate since.

This soft launch strategy is to attract the right clientele rather than offer heavily discount rates.

“We want a good quality client who can pay a little more,” Schmidt said.

Set to be Adina’s flagship property in Australia, the hotel understands it will attract the leisure market rather than its traditional corporate market base.

“We don’t want a rating of five star because none of the Adina’s are branded at the 5 star level,” Schmidt said.

Toga would not consider a name change as despite design differences, the space and amenities are true to the Adina brand, Schmidt added.
