Expedia predicts Perth, Hobart spike

Expedia predicts Perth, Hobart spike
By admin

Online travel operator Expedia is anticipating that Perth will be the number one destination for Australian travellers, in the wake of strong demand this year.

The West Australian capital ranked first in the company's recent Hottest Travel Destinations research, while southern capital Hobart came in eighth in the survey, which also included destinations in Asia, the Pacific, Japan and Mexico.

Amee Evans, Expedia travel expert, said: “It’s exciting to see domestic destinations like Perth and Hobart increasing in popularity with local tourists. Whilst these two locations are often perceived as expensive, hot deals on flights and hotels leave you with more cash to spend when you arrive.”

Other trends noted by Expedia include a 130% jump in demand for Samoa between 2011 and 2012 and a 70% lift in demand for Japan over the same period. The operator has also experienced a recent jump in package holidays to Thailand with Koh Samui being the most popular destination within the country.
