Ski operators prepare as snowfall starts
By admin

Snow has started to fall on Falls Creek, with less than seven weeks until the official opening of the alpine resort's winter season.

Locals confirmed the cold snap had arrived earlier than usual as they reported sub zero temperatures at the resort over the weekend with snowfall "sticking to trees", according to Lyn Greene of Trackers Mountain Lodge.

"It is a nice early taste of winter," Greene said. "It will remind skiers and boarders to start thinking about our winter season."

Barry Jones, owner of Pretty Valley Lodge, agreed that the cold snap had arrived around a week early.

"I'm hopeful it will spark people up and spur on their interest," he said.

The ski season offically starts on June 8, the date of the Queen's birthday weekend.

To stimulate bookings in the run up to the start, Trackers Mountain Lodge has released a three-night package for stays between June 21 and 28 priced from $599 per person including all meals, with kids charged at $50 a night.

Meanwhile, Pretty Valley Lodge is offering two nights accommodation over the opening weekend including all meals and equipment hire from $550 per person.

Feathertop Lodge is offering a number of kids stay free options while Ropers Apartments has an early season special between June 22 and 29 with a two bedroom apartment for up to six people priced from $3700 for seven nights including all equipment hire.
