Perth property expands as mining demand grows
By admin

Rising demand for hotel accommodation in Perth has prompted the city's Metro Hotel to grow its room supply by almost 50%, its owner's have revealed.

A major redevelopment of the property will see the number of rooms at the property rise from 94 to 140. The project will also include renovations to its lobby, pool area, restaurant and car park.

Metro Hospitality Group's chief operating officer, George Bedwani, said the ongoing strength of mining-related business travel and growing demand for affordable accommodation close to the city has seen the property perform "extremely well". The property underwent a $3.5 million renovation of its 94 rooms four years ago, enabling the hotel to further capitalise on the boom.

"We are now going the next step to ensure we benefit from the anticipated growth and demand over the next four to five years," Bedwani said.

"We believe the hotel industry in Perth will remain buoyant over the next five years as there continues to be capacity constraints due to a few major hotel developments being built in Perth."

Work will start in mid-2013 and is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
